Youth Development Officer (fixed term contract) Organisation British Mountaineering Council Salary £32,130 for the contract duration (1-year contract) Location BMC Office, 177-179 Burton Road, West Didsbury, Manchester, M20 2BB Contract type Fixed Term (Full time) Closing date 6 July 2026 Interview date 20 July 2026 Job Description As we look to inspire and support routes to adventure for all, we are looking for a Youth Development Officer to develop an inclusive youth participant pathway and support event delivery to grow BMCyouth membership and maximise the wider benefits of indoor climbing and the positive impact this can have on young people’s lives, inspiring the next generation of adventurers.With our ambition to grow towards 100,000 members, including growing the BMC’s U27’s membership to be greater than 15,000 the Youth Development Officer will be responsible for:Youth development (60% of role)• Engaging U27 into indoor climbing by creating inclusive pathways leading to onward pathways into outdoor climbing and other BMC activities.• Developing and delivering youth participation projects:o Manchester – working with Manchester Active as part of the legacy project for the World Climbing Series 2027.o Other locations to be agreed with post holder.Event support and delivery (40% of role)• Supporting the delivery of BMC events for young people.This role is ideal for someone who has experience of working in indoor climbing, developing young people and / or event delivery. You will be engaging and proactive, with excellent organisational, communication and influencing skills.
